The 'H' Duct

Gordon Shedden, the newly crowned British Touring Car champion, is a Scottish racing driver who currently races for the Honda Yuasa Racing Team. After finishing third in 2010 and second in 2011, Shedden eventually won the championship after a showdown with team-mate Matt Neal, and Jason Plato on the Brands Hatch GP circuit. This week’s Scrutineering takes a look back on Shedden’s career, his season and what the fans think and have to say about him!

Pre-BTCC (1996 – 2000, 2003 – 2005)

In 1996 Shedden started karting in the Scottish KTM championship, winning it in 1997. He then raced in the Ford Fiesta Championship in 1999, going on to win it in 2000 – becoming champion with nine wins. Gordon Shedden voted best BTCC driver of 2011

Honda Racing Team driver Gordon Shedden was voted by readers of TouringCarTimes as the best driver of the 2011 British Touring Car Championship season.
The 32-year-old Scotsman finished second in the drivers’ Championship this season to Matt Neal in one of the closest seasons in the BTCC’s history, finishing just eight points down after 30 races.

Shedden masters damp conditions at Oulton Park

A damp Oulton Park led to an action packed opening BTCC race, with tyre choice playing a major part in Gordon Shedden’s victory. With light rain failing on an already damp track, the Scotsman opted to go for slick tyres on the front and wets at the rear, a decision that resulted in his second win of the year, from Jason Plato and Alex MacDowall.

Wood enjoys return in BTC spec Integra

After a disrupted morning, Lea Wood marked his BTCC return by taking 21st on the grid in his BTC-spec Honda Integra for the opening race of the weekend. The 26-year-old out qualified the NGTC spec machines in Rob Austin’s Audi and Tony Hughes’ Toyota, plus the S2000 Chevrolet Lacetti of Chris James, to mark the return of the BTCC’s oldest generation of machinery to the grid.

Shedden’s high-speed crash at Brands Hatch

Photos have now emerged showing Gordon Shedden’s high-speed crash at Paddock Hill bend which put the Honda Civic out of the rest of Saturday’s running.

The Honda Racing Team repaired the car overnight, despite fears the car would not be able to race again, and Shedden was able to pick up sixth, second and fourth place finishes in the day’s three races to leave Brands Hatch fourth in the championship standings.

Honda Racing Team’s new livery

2010 BTCC manufacturers’ champions Honda have unveiled their new livery that Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden will compete with for the 2011 British Touring Car Championship season. The Honda Civic, which will this year be powered by an all new Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) turbocharged 2.0 litre Honda engine built by Neil Brown Engines, features increased sponsorship this season by electrical firms Yuasa and Pioneer.
