Honda And Evans Chase Wins in ‘11

Honda Australia and Evans Motorsport will continue to campaign the Honda Civic Type R in the 2011 Bosch Australian Rally Championship.

The team had a successful 2010, taking a podium in South Australia, placing third outright and winning the two-wheel drive category in Queensland and capping off a fantastic debut, winning the two-wheel drive championship overall.

Evans And Weston Win Two-Wheel Drive Championship With Honda

The 2010 Australian Rally Championship ended in spectacular style on a rain-soaked Victorian day, with Eli Evans and Glen Weston taking out the two-wheel drive championship in their Honda Civic Type R.

The Honda certainly left its mark on the championship, with Eli and Glen making history in South Australia in round four becoming the first two-wheel drive car to take a podium in an ARC heat since the 1980s. They backed it up in Queensland grabbing a podium outright in round five.

Honda Sets Quick Pace At Rally Queensland

The International Rally of Queensland began under lights on Friday 30 July in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, with the Honda Civic Type R of Eli Evans and Glen Weston placing second in the Super Special Stage Shootout, less than two seconds off the leaders.

The Honda joined a big field on the tarmac circuit, including international teams competing in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship in conjunction with Round Five of the Australian Rally Championship.

Lightning Strikes Twice – As Eli Evans Discovered

The old saying is true. Lightning does strike twice, at least in Coffs Harbour.

Defending Coffs Coast Rally champion Eli Evans and his Honda Civic Type R were set to grab a podium finish until the car rolled in the final stage (Bucca Long 2), forcing them to retire from the rally. The same fate befell Englishman Guy Wilks in a similar car in at the same event in 2008.

Heat Two began well for Evans and co-driver Glen Weston, with the Honda moving up to fourth on Special Stage 20 (Bushmans 2), taking the fight up to the more fancied four-wheel drive cars.

During the final stage, Eli came through a corner too quickly, ending his assault on Coffs.

Evans close second after Day One of Rally Tasmania

The Honda Civic Type R of Eli Evans and Glen Weston finished just 0.3 of a second behind Scott Pedder to claim second outright on Day One of Rally Tasmania.

The Honda Civic Type R, making its debut in the hands of Evans in the 2010 ARC, thrilled the crowds with its speed and sound throughout the first three stages of this event.

At the end of Day One, Eli was very happy with the Civic Type R and said, “We’re still learning all about it, for our first drive in the car it’s a good result.”

To most people, December 25 is when they receive that long awaited present, but for Melbourne rally driver Eli Evans, a bleak rainy January day in Melbourne was like Christmas Day.

Inside a dull red shipping container at Honda Australia HQ was his new toy, an Italian J.A.S Motorsport-built Honda Civic Type R for his assault on the 2010 Australian Rally Championship.

On seeing the car Eli remarked, “It looks fast even sitting still!” Slipping behind the wheel, he said it fitted like a glove and immediately felt like home.

Rising Australian rally star Eli Evans will compete in the 2010 Australian Rally Championship behind the wheel of a Honda Civic Type R.

Evans and experienced Co-Driver Glen Weston, will compete in a brand new JAS Motorsport built, Mugen powered Honda Civic Type R, similar to the car that current British Rally champion Guy Wilks drove in Australia in 2008.
