2016 Acura ILX…Can It Steal The German’s Thunder?

With the Los Angeles Auto Show this past week, Acura is stepping up their game with the mid-generational refresh of their compact entry-level sedan, the ILX. The Honda Civic based sedan is designed to compete with premium sedans such as the Mercedes CLA and the Audi A3. It’s priced competitively at $30,000 – same as the CLA and A3. Acura’s CEO himself says that the new ILX 2016 model is more than a mid-cycle refresh. It’s a serious remodeling of the exterior, interior and performance features. The old 150hp two-liter engine has been discontinued and has now been replaced with a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine from the TLX…pumping out a modest 201 horsepower and 180 ft*lbs of torque.

Luxury features include safety assistance systems, lane keeping and auto-collision avoidance braking. Which is good news. Now the bad news, the old manual 6-speed gearbox form the old ILX may rest in peace. Acura…
